AVG Internet Security (AIS) is a complete solution for the security needs of your home or office network, protecting your computer against viruses and malicious entities on the web.
AIS comes with integrated anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall. AIS provides real-time protection against hackers and malicious programs with non-intrusive online monitoring of internet traffic and immediate quarantining/healing of infected files. AIS also protects against rootkits, and insulates the computer from attacks while surfing, searching, and downloading files.
Anti-virus scan of incoming/outgoing e-mail, anti-spam action and protection while using Instant Messaging or ICQ or peer-to-peer communication is included in AIS. AIS is compatible with many widely-used mail managers like Outlook Express and Thunderbird.
AIS requires a minimum hardware of 1.2GHz CPU, 256MB RAM and 70MB hard disk space for installation. It is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista, and supports multiple languages.
A variant of AVG protection is AVG Antivirus PRO – which includes all the protective and preventive features of AIS except for Anti-spam protection and Firewall. AIS and AVG PRO are easy to install, the software updates itself in the background concurrently providing comprehensive protection, and allows customizable scheduled scans to run.
Uninstall is clean with no traces except for a Windows registry entry. Technical support is available 24 X 7.
AVG Antivirus is also available as a free download from Grisoft and is meant for single-computer, non-commercial use. The free version has limited functionality with only Anti-virus, Anti-spyware and Safe Search. Scan can be scheduled at one pre-specified time of day only.
Technical support for free version is available only from AVG Free Forum. Grisoft does not offer any other technical support for AVG Free but the forum is good enough to meet the average user’s needs.
AVG Free requires a minimum of 300MHz CPU, 256 MB RAM and disk space of 32MB for installation. AVG Free is available for Windows 2000/XP/Vista and supports multiple languages
